Randhawa directs SSPs to strictly impose nakabandi and check illegal rice/paddy coming into Punjab from other states

At the beginning of the paddy season, the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has issued strict instructions to the Police Department not to allow the illegal import of rice and paddy from other states to enter into Punjab.

Randhawa cautioned all the SSPs to put naakas at all the main roads and link roads day and night and strictly check vehicles to stop the inflow of rice/ paddy through the borders of the adjoining states of Punjab.

The Deputy Chief Minister also wrote to Principal Secretary Home and DGP and told them to deploy additional police personnel in the districts by this evening to check the illegal flow of rice/ paddy from other states.

Randhawa cautioned all the SSPs that these orders should be strictly followed, especially in the districts, bordering other states, like Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, S.A.S. Nagar, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur and Pathankot to ensure that no vehicle could carry out such illegal activities on any route.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that every year there were reports in the media that rice/paddy from other states was being sold illegally in Punjab through the borders of the adjoining states which was totally unwarranted. He further said that strict measures should be taken to stop this malpractice during this paddy season.
