India vs England 1st Test match: Root hits century as visitors end Day 1 on 263/3

Joe Root and Dom Sibley put England in control of the first Test, forming a stunning 200-run partnership on the opening day of the match against India here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

At stumps, England’s score read 263/3, with Root playing on 128 runs. However, India ended the day on a high as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Sibley (87) in the 90th over.

England have elected to bat against #TeamIndia in the first Paytm Test at Chepauk.

Joe Root will be playing his 100th Test match, Jasprit Bumrah his first Test at home as England and India lock horns in the series opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

A confident visiting side will look to make a positive start against India who have been unbeaten at home in Test series since 2013.

Spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel was on Friday ruled out of the first Test against England after complaining of pain in his left knee.

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem from Jharkhand and Rajasthan leg-spinner Deepak Chahar have been included in the main squad from the list of standby players.
