Former Japanese PM, Indian-American scientist Kapany on this year’s Padma Vibhushan list

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, late Moga-born physicist and entrepreneur Narinder Singh Kapany, and late singer SP Balasubramaniam are among the seven Padma Vibhushan awardees announced by the government on the eve of the 72nd Republic Day.

Late playback singer SPB gets Padma Vibhushan posthumously; Ram Vilas Paswan, Keshubhai Patel get Padma Bhushan

Kapany, the father of fibre optics, is another Padma Vibhushan awardee along with Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiuddin Khan and BB Lal, the acclaimed archaeologist who turned 100 last year.

Sudershan Sahoo, a renowned sculptor born in Puri, is also in the list of Padma Vibhushan awardees.
